Tej

Tej is a honey wine, like mead, that is brewed and consumed in Ethiopia. It has an alcohol content generally ranging from 7 to 11%.

It is often home processed and consists of three main ingredients; honey, water and a medicinal shrub called Rhamnus prinoides (Gesho in Amharic).

It is consumed with a bottle called Berele, the image herewith shown on the tote-bag.

The shape of the Berele comes in two versions, a long and short neck.

The bottles are produced just for the purpose of drinking tej.

The Bereles produced for the Imperial banquets used to be branded with the imperial monogram.

Tej should be consumed moderately. It has a smooth-operating effect on your body system!
